You must see Tenerife at least once

Top destinations in Tenerife? Aqualand is usually best suited for people traveling with younger kids, as they also have included access to a dolphin show in the same price. People usually recommended Aqualand over Siam Park because they had more attractions for younger kids, but Siam Park has recently opened a brand new area for kids, so we really prefer Siam over Aqualand, but it’s good to know that you have options. Loro Parque is considered to be the best zoo in the world, as it was voted on first position by Tripadvisor users who have visited. We have visited Loro Parque several times and we loved it every time, all the animals are well taken care of and they have several shows that you can attend. Garachico is a good option for a day trip in Tenerife. Once the island’s most important port, the town was marked by the eruption of Montaña Negra in 1706 and lost a lot of its status. The volcano did leave Garachico with one gift though: the lava that ravaged the place also carved unique rock pools into its harbour, which now attract swimmers. The peaceful Plaza de la Libertad is also worth a visit while you’re in Garachico. You can’t go to Tenerife on holiday without ordering this sweet hot drink! A Barraquito is a typical Canary Islands liqueur coffee made with condensed milk, espresso, frothed milk, lemon, cinnamon and a good splash of Licor 43 or Tia Maria. I had one after a meal in Puerto de la Cruz and it had quite a kick!

A whale watching tour off the coast of South West Tenerife is one of the best ways to watch whales and dolphins in their natural environment. Bottlenose dolphins, Sperm whales, Pilot whales and Risso dolphins are all resident in the waters around the Canary Island with other species such as the Killer Whale, Minke Whale and the Striped Dolphin occasionally migrating into the waters. You may also see turtles, sharks, osprey and kestrels. Museums in Tenerife can often be overlooked, but The Museum of Science and the Cosmos (MCC) in La Laguna is one of the most important in Spain and worth a visit. The museum delves into the world of science and astronomy combining traditional museum exhibitions with interactive displays, demonstrations, astronomy evenings, a planetarium and fun activities for all ages.

Holidays to Tenerife have been popular amongst us Brits for decades but not everyone who visits the island strays from its beaten path and experiences life beyond the resorts. I visited on a press trip with Jet2.com and Visit Tenerife to explore the lesser-known parts of the destination recently and discovered all of the fun, unique things to do in Tenerife. Over the course of our three day stay in Tenerife, I learned so much about the holiday destination. Did you know there are around 300 volcanoes there? Yeah, neither did I!

The Pyramids of Guimar is a natural complex that consists of a collection of six free-standing pyramids built in the 19th century outside of the town of Güímar. They are impressive, especially since they were built without mortar. the Pyramids of Güímar have become a popular tourist site, due to its mysterious appeal and historical ambiguity. Anyhow, they definitely stand out in the national park filled with reed ships, ancient artefacts and tranquil grounds.
